Empire State Building
With a height of 443 meters, until 1972 the Empire State Building was the tallest building on earth. It is one of the most recognizable skyscrapers in New York and around the world as it appears in dozens of films and photographs. Its characteristic nose protrudes into the New York skyline and is visible from tens of kilometers. Besides the view it has from the street don’t forget to go up to the observatory on the 86th or 102nd floor. The view of New York and the surrounding area is sure to take your breath away.
Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor that was a gift from the people of France to the United States in 1886. The Statue of Liberty, because of its location, welcomed the wave of immigrants who was coming to America for a new life. You can take one of the many boats that depart from Battery Park and reach the islet or enjoy it from a cruise ship. Don’t forget to visit the neighboring Ellis Island, where it was the first stop for immigrants who arrived in New York.
Museum of Modern Art MOMA
The Museum of Modern Art (referred to as MoMA) is one of the largest modern art museums in the world. The museum’s collection offers an unparalleled insight into newer and contemporary art, including architecture and design, drawings, paintings, sculpture, photography, prints, illustrated and artist books, film and electronic media. Exhibits at MoMA include more than 150,000 individual pieces in addition to approximately 22,000 films and 4 million film stills.
Central Park
A huge city like New York could not have a huge park for the entertainment of its citizens, and not only that. The “garden” of New York has it all: lakes, streets, bridges, squares, playgrounds, zoo, museums, statues and of course green, lots of green. One day is definitely not enough to explore the park. Choose to go boating on The Lake, rent a bike or simply walk through this oasis.
Brooklyn Bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects Manhattan to Brooklyn over the East River. At the top there is a special deck for pedestrians and bicycles where you can walk. American Museum of Natural History
The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is one of the largest and best known museums in the world. The museum includes 25 interconnected buildings and 46 permanent exhibition spaces, research laboratories, and its famous library. Inside its premises you can see more than 32 million exhibits. Don’t miss the dinosaurs, the Ocean Life room, the meteorites, the Rose Center and of course the dozens of display cases with impressive models.
Times Square
Times Square, although not a square, is one of the most important commercial hubs in Manhattan. For many it is considered the center of the world. The dozens of illuminated signs and news panels have now become an institution in the area. In the surrounding area there are theaters, hotels, music halls, museums and much more. A large part of the square is pedestrianized and has seating. Get lost in the crowd and fool around with all the things you’ve seen in dozens of movies. If you happen to be there during the Christmas period you will be part of the biggest celebration of the change of the year with the now famous New Year’s ball.
Bronx Zoo
Although Manhattan has the Central Park Zoo, the Bronx Zoo is a must-see, especially if you have kids with you. One of the world’s largest zoos, it features more than 4,000 animals from 650 species within 265 acres. Wander through themed areas such as the African plains, the reptile world, the bird world, the butterfly garden and more. The Bronx Zoo can also be reached by subway.
Ground Zero
Ground Zero refers to the area where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center once stood, before their collapse in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
